3 Common Questions About Document Shredding

While we’ve been helping businesses with document shredding services for over 25 years, we still sometimes get a question that we haven’t heard before. But, for the most part, we’ve heard most of the questions that you might have. And we don’t mind doing so. Every time we get a question, the better and more helpful are the answers.

In addition to the questions answered on our FAQ page, here are some others that can help give you a better understanding of document shredding and how it can help your business.

1. What documents should I shred?

This is probably the most common and one of the most important questions we get asked. You must keep certain documents for certain lengths of time, and if you don’t know how long to store documents before shredding them, you could end up in contravention of certain corporate compliance requirements that might be a problem if you’re ever audited and can’t prove some of the claims you made in tax submissions.

You may also want to shred other documents that may have sensitive information, including notepads, magazines with address information, even packing receipts and labels.

2. Do I Have to Remove Staples and Paper Clips Before Sending Documents to be Shredded?

No. Professional paper shredders can easily cut through staples, paper clips and even binder clips. So you don’t have to waste time removing them.

3. What’s Wrong with Just Using Our Office Shredder?

Your office shredder doesn’t protect the security and privacy of your business, its employees, its customers and/or its suppliers. Office shredders do not shred paper to the point that any information it contained is absolutely destroyed. Only documents shredded in accordance with NAID (National Association for Information Destruction) AAA Certification can be considered certifiably destroyed.
